World premiere of  Symphonic Dances in Stavanger

30/4/2014

Stavanger Symphony Orchestra has commissioned a work by Gisle Kverndokk in connection with the anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution. The idea was to create an orchestral piece that showed the cultural diversity of Stavanger. This is a city that has a great amount of different cultures. To celebrate this diversity, the orchestra decided to focus on the variety of folk music in the Stavanger area.

This resulted in a piece that included folk music from China, Cuba, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Eritrea, Greece, Poland, Sweden, Iran, Madagascar, Kurdistan and Norway.

The first performance is on 30. April in Stavanger Concert Hall. Stavanger Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Rolf Gupta.
The concert will also be broadcasted on NRK P2, May 17. http://radio.nrk.no/serie/opera/MKMK06002014/17-05-2014
